About ME, Scott Smejkal

This page is designed to let you folks learn about who I am, and what passions I have. First and fore-most,my name is Scott Smejkal and I am a Sophomore at Oregon State University, attending the College of Business. I have often questioned where this will take me in life, and I have thought about changing my major to fit a more easy going lifestyle. My ambition in life is to have fun, and be successful, just like most people, but I put more emphasis on the have fun part, success will come with hard work. In the last year I have found that my goals of the past did not make me as happy as I had hoped for, so as of now I am on the search for new things in my life. Possibly to study abroad, or transfer schools to get a higher degree in the future. Over the summer I completed a few 'focused' readings that my parents thought would be a good idea, and what I have learned from that is, to be successful, you need to not only work hard, but also do what you enjoy. This is a big dilemma beacuse I have also found out that I do not like many of my business classes. As of now, I am in a little bit of a squeeze of time to figure out what I want to do with my life.

My Wiki Plan

My OSU Wiki plan will be to bring a younger set of critique into todays movies. The reason for this is that I believe the movie critics of today do not have the same guidelines of what a 'good' movie is, compared to the youth of today. I will be submitting movie titles along with famous, up-and-coming actors/actresses, along with a detailed and opinionated view of how I felt about the movie. Hopefully this will let people open their eyes to new movies that may be good movies but did not get the reviews that they deserved. In the future I plan to bring a 'top ten' category and to update it every few weeks. If there are any suggestions on how I could improve this site, please let me know, I am all ears.

My Mentors

Hello! I started a mentor’s page for you so I (and you other 2 mentors) would have somewhere to write to you. I think you have a good idea because as a true Oregonian I know a lot of people will find your information useful. I think it would be a good idea to start off the page Recreation or Sports pages which have already been created off of the main page. You could start you own section for snowboarding and then break off from there. I don't know anything about snowboarding so I am excited to learn as I read your work.

I think you have done some good work on all of the different mountains in the area. My only suggestion would be for you to work a little on the formatting on that page because the titles of the mountains were different (some were bold, some weren't ect) You may also want to add a space between each mountain so that it is easier to read. Other than that you are doing great. I am excited to see what else you will get done.

Hey thats wierd that i got a fellow snowboarder that i have to edit, because my page is about snowboarding in oregon, too. But my page will focus on the things people did and where they went. Your wiki plan seems a little focused on a very little section of the sport, maybe broaden your asperations, but i think with and opinion section like you are creating there will be heated debates and i know i will tune in to the madness. Just like the guy above said we need to start links off the main page and soon because their is no way people will find our sections if we don't put in the proper section. Thanks and good luck in the class.

I have overviewed your contributions to the OSU wiki and it seems like you have not added any new stuff for a long time. The page needs some help to become a page that adds value for students. I think you should focus your goal and get the ball rolling with some new information and new sections. When creating these sections add links and pictures to get students attention and want to add value themselves to the page. I think your original idea for your site would be a great section in your current page, but a little to focused to become a page itself. Maybe add a how section, that would be cool. Good Luck

Advice from Statens

Haha two fellow snowboarders as wiki mentors, that pretty unique. I personally ride Flows, and have for about 4 years now. They are by far the best binding in my opinion and make anything else really tedious to use. One thing you might include in your posts are local places to ride, which places are more snowboarder friendly and possible even start a ride-group, where people can find a list of people going to area ski-resorts who are willing to provide rides.

You started out with adding really good content, however the organization could have used a little work. But as of recently you haven't updated any pages or added any information. Hopefully you do this before Friday but if you keep up the quality of work you had before and just continue to expand that information you should be fine. The mountains section definetely had room for expansion and you might try to find a way to more closely tie it in with student life here on campus, ie ride sharing.
