About Me

I am a junior in the BA major with a general option.

I grew up in Sunriver, Oregon which is 15 miles south of Bend, which is right in the center of the state. When I was born, Bend had a population of 15,000. It now has a population of 80,000+ and is the 20th fastest growing city in the Country. And for this, I despise Californians for flocking to our little paradise and polluting it with their "SoCallism." But hey I'm all about diversity...right?

I was a "jock" in high school and worked as a ranch hand and did construction in the summers. College was my parent's idea, and not my plan, but I'm glad I'm here. I don't know what myspace or facebook is, and I've never used IM. I like computers to get work done and that's it. Otherwise, I spend my time outdoors... Hunting, hiking, wakeboarding, snowboarding, whatever...if it's outdoors, i'm doing it.

My Wiki Plan

My number one interest, besides outdoor recreation, is the real estate market, real estate investing, and real estate entrepreneurship. Therefore, I plan to focus my efforts on the OSU Wiki around real estate topics that will be useful to college students. My first idea is to create a page where students can share their experiences with particular landlords, management companies, and houses. By collaborating and sharing experiences, students can seek out the good landlords and avoid the "not so good" ones.

My Contributions

Overview of Contributinos

I started early so that I could create some structure for other students to work off of. I felt I had some good ideas and I wanted to put those out there early on because I thought it would help those that weren't sure what they could do get started. I focused most of my attention on the Housing page.

Specific Contributions

  • I created the Off Campus link on the main page and then the Housing, [Bars/Nightlife]], Restaurants and Dining, Transportation, Recreation links on that page. I was pleased to see that three other links have been added to this page so far by another student. The Bars/Nightlife page took off, I mean somebody did some good work on this page. Someone did a little work on the Transportation page as well. I hope some more work will be done on this as well, maybe things such as bus routes, campus shuttle, etc. The Recreation page has grown extesively with four links having been added thus far.
  • I worked extensively on the Housing page. So far it hasn't seen the growth that I thought it would. I think this might be because it is several links away from the main page and might just take awhile for people to discover. I think it has a very useful structure that students would like to add to, but maybe I'm wrong. I hope to work more on this page in the coming weeks to see if I can get more people to discover it and make it more useful. I noticed that there was another housing page started and I plan to collaborate with this page and probably combine the two.
  • Started a discussion on the Off Campus Living page because I discovered that this page and my page Housing page are very similar and probably should be merged in someway or another.
  • Edited the Off Campus Living page introduction paragraph. It had several gramatical errors.

You have some great ideas. I think all of the links that have been created with your idea will be really benificial to your overall Real Estate theme. Maybe something you could consider adding would be showing the pros and cons of having an independant landlord verses a property management company. You are off to a really good start and I think students will really benifit from this.

Good job thus far. It looks like you have put a lot of work into your contributions. All of your material is organized in an easy to navigate manner. That is nice that other people have added to what you began, clearly your topic is one of interest to others. Keep up the good work.

I too am an entrepreneur and have looked into real estate ownership here in Corvallis, one thing I've noticed is how unique of a market it is as compared to the rest of the state. You've added some really great content so far, you might concider talking about how students can take advantage of seasonal markets and distance from campus in order to get the most out of their investment. Looking good so far!

Looks good, you're definitely creating a lot of content and all of it seems to be fairly well organized. In addition to creating it looks like you've done a lot of general editing and adding. You've taken care to look for pages that should be merged and keeping the wiki organized. The housing page in particular is very well done. Looking really good, keep it up!
