Dan Reynoldson

My Name is Dan Reynoldson and am a sophomore in Business. I am a member and vice president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. I also work at Corvallis Country Club. When not in Corvallis, I live in Gresham, OR. I graduated from Sam Barlow High School in '04. I know that if you are reading this that you are either grading it or have to mentor me, so I hope you have fun with it and don't get too bored. I though I might just include a cute little pic of myself to add some color to the page. Aight! Sweet!

My Wiki Plan

My plan for adding positive contributions to the Oregon State Wiki is to develop a valuable resource for students. This will include sections for sharing class notes that you have and can share with other students, and a page that serves as a local method that you can rate your professor’s performance. Equally important is that you can look at other student's notes and see what other student's have said about the Professors they have taken classes with in the past.

I will start my work with the 'Rate My Professor' portion and establish a backbone of course subjects and headers. With some luck, I will have a skeleton that has subfields for both class titles and by Professors last name. It will be interesting to see if I can find a way to link the information (almost in a circle) so that I will not have to enter it more than once. (Like by assigning the course numbers that a certain Professor teaches to his comments, and sort them either by Professor name or course number)

As of the class on Thursday, April 13, Professor Sullivan discussed matters involving a class notes page. Due to this, I will be holding back on working on this page. Instead, I will spend more time helping others improve there wiki contributions to add fluidity to the site.

Overview of Contributions

My wiki contributions are not centralized to one topic or area of the wiki. I have been working more on getting the various wiki pages up and running with meaningful content. As other students have taken on projects like rating professors or posting class notes, I have backed away and worked in other areas of the wiki. I have added information to clubs that I have first had knowledge of such as political groups and the National Student exchange so I can add better content. The information that I have posted should be extremely valuable to those who are searching these topics.

My Personal Contributions

A general list of what I have done on the Oregon State University wiki.

  • May, 16: Today I have posted a section to the Oregon State University Fraternities page. Here I gave an explanation of why young men would want to join an OSU Fraternity. In addition, I posted a couple of links that could take perspective members to an interest form and the Oregon State Greek Life home page where they can learn more.
  • May, 3: I have added a rating of the Weatherford dorm from my personal experience and added a balanced well rounded description of student living conditions. You can find this additional dorm infromation at Rate the Dorms.
  • April, 25: I recently added the National Student Exchange page that you can access through Academic Success on the main page. I have included what the program is and a some information on why some students my be interested. To me, it seems like an academic success method, but that is open to interpretation.
  • April, 14-20: I have been working on this fun My Talk page. Soon, I will be getting back to making real contributions to the wiki agin.
  • April, 8: Political Science. I created some structure for finding out information about each Political Science professor on campus. It included contact information, what courses they were teaching, and an area of what student though of after taking that course.
  • April, 8: Political Groups. I added a section about political groups on camps with some of the information I knew and could find without too much trouble. I had all the formatting needed for others to add information with ease.
  • April, 4:Rate Your Professor. On the main page, I added a like that for students to share what they thought about the professors they had taken. This information is invaluable when registering for classes and deciding what professors you want to take classes from. Since then, the link has been removed. To find it, you now must click on special pages on the toolbox in the left had navigation bar. Then click Orphaned pages. This is a list of all of the pages that now do not have links to them. You will see that Rate Your Professor is among them. If you can find a proper place to put, I would be more than happy to have your help.

This is a great idea. Sharing class notes and rating professor's teaching performances are very valuable resources for students. It gives a good idea about what to expect from the professor and it reaches out to a variety of students from different courses.

As of May 18, 2006 Looking at your contributions and looking at what you have done so far look awesome. You have created several pages for osu students to look at about Fraternities, Rating dorms, National studnet exchange, political science, and my favorite one rating the profesors. These pages are a variety to keep anyone busy and interested in getting familiar with some Oregon State events or simply expressing their thoughts on professors. I feel that you have made a great effort on building additional links to your page and done great so far. May only organize how on can rate a professor by 1-4 other then that great job!
