Description
Ultimate disk or ultimate frisbee as many people call is a non contact sport which can be played as a highly competitive sport or simply as a way to relax outside. The objective of the game is to score goals by throwing a disk into an endzone. When throwing the player is not allowed to take any steps however, the player is allowed to have a pivot foot. Each team consist of 7 players, which can be co-ed. The disk is turned over to the other team anytime it is intercepted, knocked-down, or contacts and out of bounds area. Rules can vary however if the captains of the two teams agree on them. The game starts with a throw off, which is also how the game resumes after a score. There are two halfs each lasting 20 minutes long with a five minute break in between halfs. The teams are allowed one timeout each half as well. There are no offsides or scrimmage lines you can run anywhere within the area and the disk can be thrown any direction. Substitutions are also allowed in the game. However, these substitutions can only be made after a goal and before the throw-off, before the beginning of a period of play, or to replace unjured players. Out of bounds in ultimate disk is a little different than most sports. The disk may fly outside of the perimeter of the field and return to play and still be considered inbounds. Also when a player catches the frisbee out of bounds in the air it can still be ruled a catch inbounds. It is all dependent on where that person last contact was before jumping. The players in or out of bounds is determed by where he/she last contacted the ground. Should the players momentum carry them out of bounds after a catch they are also still considered inbounds. The player just has to walk back to the point where where he/she was inbounds last.
Dimensions of the Field
The field is a rectangular shape with dimensions of 100 X 40 yards with 2 endzones that are 20 X 40 yards. All other areas are out of bounds, however, the disk is not out of bounds until it contacts the ground. If a player touches in bounds first and jumps out of bounds to get the disk, that is still considered a catch and is not out of bounds.
