Myths about alcohol

There are so many little things about alcohol that college students are not aware of. Most of them are myths, and I find it very interesting when I am around a "drinking envirnoment" how often I hear some of there myths.

The worst thing that can happen is that I'll pass out and have a hangover in the morning

Of course this is correct, but only part of it. Yes, you will most likely have a hangover in the morning but the fact is that alcohol kills. When alcohol poisoning occurs the level of alcohol in your body acts like a poison which can cause death.

The best thing to do to a drunk person is to put them to bed and let them sleep it off

If you are ever put in this situation where someone is too drunk, when you put them to bed you must check up on them at least every 15 minutes. When you are checking up on them you must check to see if they are breathing, and check there skin tempature as well.

You will get drunk quicker if you drink liquor, opposed to beer or wine coolers

This situation may seem right to college students, but the fact is that alcohol is alcohol and it does not matter what you are drinking.

Facts about alcohol

Sometimes it takes actual facts to get the point across to college students that drinking causes damage not only to yourself but also to the people around you. While you are in college you don't need to always have liquor in your system just to make the experience memorable, there are many other alternatives. Here are some sobering facts that I have found:

  • "Between 2%-3% of the American college population will die from alcohol related causes."
  • "The average female college student spends $150.00 per year on alcohol."
  • "The average male college student spends $300.00 per year on alcohol."
  • "Drinking and driving is the number one killer of Americans between the ages of 17-24."
  • "One in every three suicides involves alcohol."
  • "54% of alcoholics have an alcoholic parent."
