Stehr, Christian
From OSU Wiki
Since 1975 Dr. Christian Stehr has been a professor for the German department and also acts as an advisor for the department. He teaches all German language classes (1st year through 5th year), except fourth year and German literature (these are taught by Professor Klotz). He is a very interesting professor with a very structured teaching style, although every now and then (especially in the first and second years) he likes to bring in his guitar and teach the class fun German songs.
He has had a varied career up to this point. He wrote and hosted the "Guten Tag" instructional television series which Oregon Public Broadcasting produced and distributed, and various US PBS stations have run them multiple times. The 1st and 2nd year students at OSU also currently use the series (2006-2007). He has also produced other films, such as "Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace" and "Luther".
Using the "Guten Tag" instructional series in 1st and 2nd year he focuses mostly on fundamental core German language mechanics for the classes. It should be noted that in the 2005-2006 school year two students of his received the prestigious D.A.A.D. (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) stipendium; a grant or fellowship if you prefer, that is funded by the German government. They placed 4th and 5th out of 11 nations.
He not only teaches the German language superbly, but offers a deeper understanding of the mechanics and jargon of languages in general. He should be highly recommended to anyone with an interest in a foreign language.
