A Little About Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling, also commonly referred to as sledding, is definitley a rush for all you adrenaline junkies out there. Especially if you enjoy skiing or snowboarding, sledding will take it one step further. Racing 1oo mph on the snow in the open air is unparalelled by any other sport.
A snowmobile is a machine specifically made for traveling on snow; hence the large track and skis. Snowmobilers often own their sleds but it is also possible to rent them out for the day. Rates will vary depending on the sled and the allotted time, but generally prices will range from $200 to $275 for a full day of riding and $100 to $175 for a half day.
Along with a snowmobile, you'll also need a few other things in order to ride. A helmet is extremely crucial for a snowmobiler at all times. Also, adequate clothing is essential. A waterproof jacket, pants and boots are very important. Gloves are recommended as well.
Now if you're looking for somewhere to try snowmobiling for your very first time, or if you're an experienced rider just looking for somewhere to sled, Santiam Pass is the best bet. Located just 90 miles East of Corvallis, Santiam Pass has numerous snowmobiling areas to offer beginners and enthusiasts alike.
