Tips for Student Safety
There are many ways that students can protect themselves and help to prevent the occurrence of a campus crime. Following are important tips that can help to keep you safe, both during the day and at night.
- Always survey the campus, buildings, residence halls, and other facilities while classes are in session and after dark to make sure that buildings, walkways, and parking lots are secured, lit, and patrolled. Also check and know where there are any emergency phones or shuttle services in case of an emergency.
- Travel in groups when possible and never walk alone at night. If you are not able to find a buddy to walk home with, call Saferide at (541) 737-5000 for a ride or call the Department of Public Safety at 7-3010. They will provide you with and ride or escort to take you home.
- Always use lighted walkways around campus when walking at night and avoid taking any shortcuts.

These halls have many features, including locked doors, on-duty residence assistant at all times, and emergency phones located outside of the building to help students at any time. Each resident hall is also a member of the Community/Neighborhood Watch Program. This program is a crime prevention program that is designed to reduce the number of thefts and assaults in and around the residence halls.
