Refuse Recycling information
From OSU Wiki
A number of potentially hazardous and environmentally unfriendly materials are a usual part of a college student's every day life. This article aims to provide information pertaining to recycling in Corvallis and on the OSU campus.
Because we are a rather OSU-centric wiki, Oregon State University's recycling program comes first. OSU Campus Recycling operates a large-scale recycling program to meet the substantial needs of the OSU campus. Not only does Campus Recycling handle confidential documents and paper, they also work actively to handle all manners of recyclable waste, from cardboard to motor oil (in the case of the motor pool.) Statistics pertaining to OSU Campus Recycling can be found on the OSU Sustainability page.
OSU Residence halls are also serviced by Campus Recycling, and are equipped with recycle bins for paper, cardboard, cans, glass, and plastic.
Corvallis city waste pick up is handled by Corvallis Disposal Co. (Allied Waste Services). Corvallis Disposal Co. customers are given red recycling bins for most recyclable household items (paper including newspaper, household "junk mail", and magazines; cardboard including non-waxed corrugated cardboard and paperboard; all aluminum cans; and other items), and a second bin for all glass items (clear and colored). Used motor oil will be picked up if it is in a container and placed near the recyclable materials on pickup day.
Corvallis Disposal Co. also operates several drop-off points in and around Corvallis. They are:
- Corvallis Disposal
110 N.E. Walnut Blvd., Corvallis
- Processing & Recovery Center
10 mi. north of Corvallis, Hwy 99W,
Right on Camp Adair Rd. for 1 mile
- First Alternative CO-OP
- Monroe Transfer Station
24785 Highway 99W., Monroe, OR
Most civilian recycling organizations do not accept hazardous materials such as gasoline or pesticides. For information regarding recycling those and other very hazardous materials, contact the local fire department. In Corvallis, the fire department is located at 400 NW Harrison Blvd., and the phone number is (541) 766-6961.
