Local Performances
On Campus
Maybe you haven't noticed while you're walking home from economics with your mind blanketed in blankness, but the MU is constantly hosting different musical talents. Whether it's the mariachi bands out in the Quad or the Jazz Improv Class kickin it up a notch in the lounge, it is a great place to stop by and experience some music in between classes or for a short study session before that midterm. Information on performances can usually be found on signs by the lounge or at the MU office.
If you find yourself interested in some of the local talent around, but just aren't that familiar with the current offerings, you will probably be interested in hitting up the yearly Battle of the Bands (BOTB). Usually hosted by KBVR and packing the Quad full of miscreants, every spring the creme of the crop puts in on display for a nights of music festivities. And there's a beer garden! It's a must-experience experience.

Local bands frequent the bars and clubs around Corvallis, so if you are interested in these events, stop by and pick up fliers at the desired locations or check your nearest Barometer news-stand as there are usually several posters for upcoming shows. These events are fun ways to go out for some entertainment and experience the night life around OSU.

Getting Involved
There are a number of opportunities for getting involved with the music scene around OSU, regardless of what genre you're interested in.
KBVR
Ah, KBVR. I have to admit I have a personal soft spot for our lovable radio and tv stations. Maybe you've cruised by comcast cable channel 26 and thought "Is that a ninja?". Well most friday nights this ninja turns into a expose of a local band playing live right over your television courtesy of KBVR TV. It's free and comes straight out of OSU so you owe it to yourself to check it out.
If you are into the kind of music you don't normally hear from your standardized radio stations, give KBVR radio a listen at 88.7 FM. They play all sorts of music, along with sports and news programs. There are live DJs on almost all day every week day ready to spin your pleasure and take requests. The station operates on a block schedule with different genres playing during the same blocks of time every day. For the latest schedule visit the website or stop by the station located in Snell hall right above the Barometer.
For anybody interested in getting involved at KBVR, FM or TV, you should make a stop by the respective stations in Snell hall. FM is always looking for willing DJs interested in a weekly show, and TV can always use a helping hand for Locals Live and their other programming.
For The Listener
Sometimes it's just hard to find other people interested in your favorite tunes. Whether it's Whitesnake or the Spice Girls, a great way to meet people into the same music is to take a walk through your dormitory. People are pretty unabashed about blaring their favorite stuff down the hallway and are probably the very same people interested in talking about it or hitting up a local, or not so local, show.
For The Player
A stop by Benton Hall, the music building, located near the Women's Center and Milne computer lab is a great place to meet other people interested in making music and is usually a good place to start. There are several groups that students can take part in that are offered by the music department that DO NOT require that you are currently a major, minor, or even taking classes.
It can be difficult to pick out those interested in, say, Rock 'n' Roll bands or that reggae sound, just hanging out between classes in the music building. The best places to seek those people are at the shows at Platinum or Bomb's Away Cafe, where bands of these varieties are often featured. I have found that there are a lot of people who are all sorts of ready to start up a band and are just looking for other people who want to be a part of it.
Choirs
Meistersingers is the featured large men's ensemble at OSU and are almost always looking for new recruits. Find them out during the first weeks of fall term for best results. They are interested in men who enjoy singing and get to play a lot of unique events, like singing the national anthem at a football game. Plus you get to wear a cool tie.
Bella Voce is the ying to the Meistersingers' yang. This is the group for the ladies interested interested in singing at OSU. They sing a variety of awesome music and are a group of fun people.
