Steve Lawton – BA 347
This class, more than anything else is time consuming. Steve Lawton adds a lot to the class. He shares his professional experiences and experiences of previous graduates. One thing that he does different from most classes, he gives a test each class period. He usually gives the test during the last 30 minutes of class. His tests are entirely way to specific, much of the test comes from the book. One problem with this type of testing is that you loose 30 minutes of valuable time that you could be learning from Professor Lawton. His type of testing requires a considerable amount of time out of class and because his tests are at the end of each class, you must learn from the book and hope that you can absorb the teachers input before each test.

I found this class to be stimulating, interesting and going far beyond the standard "cram-and-flush" system employed by far too many professors. While most professors seem fit to hand you the book, tell you to read x pages and then shove a midterm in your face on week 5, Professor Lawton forces you to take quizzes every day in class. "Wait a minute" you say! But it's brilliant for a few reasons:
1. You are forced to read the material (which is actually interesting, and not too dry.)
2. You use the material within 1 week of reading it, rather than having to wait weeks for a midterm.
3. You don't have to come back at the end of the term, 10 weeks after reading Chapter 1, and learn it all over again.
Professor Lawton's class is interesting and actually furthers my knowledge of International Business, rather than confuse me. It adds to the text and compounds upon it. Lawton adds his own experience and current events that are relevant and explain the concepts laid out in the book. While his quizzes are not a cakewalk, they're not rediculously hard or complex either. If you read the chapter and focus on understanding the concepts, you're going to get a decent grade on the quizzes. And if you need help, Prof. Lawton is readily available and very approachable.
