Sound Laws
Unlawful Amplified Sound
Using a device, such as a television, stereo, or radio that can be heard more than 50 feet away can be considered a violation.
Also, amplified sound that can be heard through the walls, such as in an apartment, is also illegal.
You can be arrested or fined.
Loud Noise
Making unnecessary, disturbing, or unreasonably loud noise ANYTIME of the day or night can be considered a violation and subject to a fine.
Alcohol Laws
Consumption of Alcohol or Possession of an Open Container in a Public Place
All ages are subject to this ordinace. Drinking an alcoholic beverage while in public, including streets and alleyways, or while in a vehicle that is in public, is illegal. You could be arrested or fined.
Minor in Posession
A minor in posession, we will call it M.I.P. for short, is fairly straight forward, if you are underage and drinking then you are at risk to receive an M.I.P. There are a few different versions of an M.I.P. charge. The first is an M.I.P. due to consumption, which in clearer terms means that if you admit to an officer that you have drank any alcohol during that day then you can receive an M.I.P. From personal experience this version of an M.I.P. is the most ridiculous, you could have a beer with your dad early in the afternoon and then later in the evening an officer could give you an M.I.P. for consuming the alcohol you shared with your dad. The second type of an M.I.P. charge occurs when an officer observes you drinking a beer. An M.I.P. will end up costing you around $200.00, however if it is your first M.I.P. you have the option of taking a diversion class. A diversion class consists of others charged with an M.I.P., as well as an instructor who goes over the dangers of drinking. If you choose to take the diversion class, your M.I.P. will be erased from your record if you do not receive another M.I.P. within a year.
Yard Laws
Trim Your Lawn
Due to fire hazards and allergies, between June 1st and Sept. 30th, all weeds and grass must be kept under 10 inches. Fines can result if the law is broken. Here is the information from the City.
Other Laws
It is illegal to park in the same spot on the street for over 48 hours. This applies to all city streets, not just ones with parking regulation signs on them.
- I got a $45 ticket for this this summer. Even though I was out of town for a week and had never heard of this law. My car was parked right in front of my house! I got the ticket reduced to $15 but the court would not drop it off my record.
