MECHA
MECHA stands for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan. MECHA is a political group with a vision of securing educational rights for Hispanics. They are involved in a lot events at OSU; such as "Dia de los muertos" which is going to take place on November the 1st and the 2nd in the MU Quad, MECHA regional meeting and BBQ on November the 4th, and Mecha regional conference on January 19, 20, and 21st. They also do a lot of community services, such as high school tutoring, give tours of the OSU campus for Middle School and High School students, etc. The group meets every Tuesday at 5pm in Waldo room 128. For additional information on what this club is about, you can visit their website at: http://oregonstate.edu/groups/mecha/history.htm
SHPE
SHPE stands for Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. SHPE is the source for quality hispanic engineers and technical talent. Each year there are several conferences that help each and every one of its members to enhance important skills needed to become a succesful leader. The National Institute for Leadership Advancement (NILA) conference is exclusively designed to provide newly-elected student and professional chapter presidents with the resources for enhancing leadership and communication skills that are required for effectively managing your professional and personal lives. Personal management and strategic planning skills are essential to be successful in your SHPE chapters. The biggest event of all for SHPE members is NTCC. Each year, NTCC attracts nearly 5,000 engineering professionals, students and corporate representatives. The conference is an opportunity for engineering companies and corporations to recruit top talent from SHPE membership. It also provides educational, technical and career opportunities for professional and student engineers. ALAS
ALAS stands for Association of Latin American Students. This organization has a lot of members from different countries of Latin America and Spain. Personally, I find this association really helpful for international students from Latin America becuase there is a lot of chances that you might find someone that is from the same country where you're from. Also you will find students with the same interest as you. This orgainzation is accredited for organizing Salsa Explosion every other week at Platinum. For more information on how to join them or what they are about feel free to visit their website at: http://oregonstate.edu/groups/alas/index.htm
