History
Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded by six young women at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois on October 13, 1870. This organization is known as a fraternity, not a sorority, because it was founded before the term sorority was coined.
Gamma Mu Chapter
The Gamma Mu chapter at Oregon State is located at 1335 NW Van Buren. This has been the location of the Kappa house since 1940. Kappa Kappa Gamma was originally founded as a chapter, Gamma Mu, at Oregon State in 1924.
As of April 25th, 2006, this chapter currently holds 73 members and is the largest sorority at Oregon State.
For the 2005-2006 scholastic year, the Gamma Mu chapter received 2nd place in grades Fall term and 4th place in grades Winter term.
For the 2005-2006 Scholastic year, the Gamma Mu chapter recieved second place for Greek Week.
Philanthropy
The Gamma Mu Chapter holds an annual philanthropy to raise money for the Reading is Fundamental organization and CARDV, the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence. The philanthropy is a golf tournament, the "Kappa Klassic" which is held every Spring term. The Kappas recently held the annual tournament on Saturday April 22, 2006 at Diamond Woods golf course in Monroe, Oregon, which is just south of Corvallis. This year's event raised $3,000 for the national philanthropies.
