Club Overview

Oregon State's Japanese Animation (otherwise known as anime) Club is a small group of ragtag hobbyists who like to watch, discuss, and appreciate the various styles of Japanese animation. The club isn't restricted to just anime, anyone who likes to read or draw manga (Japanese graphic novels), play hand-held or online games, Magic: The Gathering, or simply wants to relax at the end of a long day is free to drop by and see what goes on. If you want an idea of what the club is based off of, take a look at the anime Genshiken if you wish.

There is one common mistake that must be addressed. If you think that the Japanese Animation Club offers little else than what you can watch on your own free time and leisure, and you choose not to participate because the club is showing something you have already watched or are currently watching, you are devaluing one of the club's greatest strengths. The Japanese Animation Club allows students who normally might not leave their residence outside of class a chance to engage socially with other students with similar interests in a welcoming atmosphere while they enjoy activities that they like.

Even if you are socially active, you are still welcome to hang around and expand your network of friends and acquaintances. One good part about joining the Japanese Animation Club is there is no need to officially sign up with the club; all you really need to do is love Japanese animation or any related media and show up on a near-constant basis and you should be a regular member in no time.

If you are new to the club and you would like a more colorful interpretation of what the club is like, then please feel free to visit Oregon State University's current Japanese Animation Club website. There you will find detailed summaries of the current and past anime series we have watched as well as photos of the club in action.

There also has been a website made for the club in the past that you can visit if you wish. Do note - it is not the current website, but it still is useful for additional info about the club in the past.

Meeting Schedule

The Japanese Animation club meets from 6pm to 10:30pm every Thursday in the Jack Porter Board Room on the second floor of the Memorial Union Building. Meeting times and locations have been subject to change so if the club is not there by 6pm, then check the club directory on the first floor for directions.
