International Program
The International Program here at Oregon State University participates in the International Opportunities available through the Oregon University Systems Program.
Some of the places OUS has Study Programs to are China, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico and Thailand.
International Internships
In addition, if you are more interested in doing an Internship Abroad , there are chances to work in countries such as Austrailia, Ghana, Ecuador, Mexico and many other exciting countries.
The International Program is organized into 5 sub categories within the program. The 5 categories consist of the International Education and Outreach, International Student and Faculty Services, English Language Institute, OUS International Programs and the Administrative Services Area.
International Degree
The International Degree is one of Oregon State’s dual degree programs. This is a great opportunity for students that want an International Experience while also majoring in a more traditional area of study.
The four main components of the International Degree are that you have an International Experience ( Study Abroad or Exchange Program), a second language proficiency, have taken 4 core courses in your area of study, and lastly a senior thesis.
Through the English Language Institute, Oregon State students have the opportunity to get to know International students studying English here.
International Business Exchange Program
International Business Exchange Program
More specifically for Business students, the Arthur Stonehill International Business Exchange Program is the biggest exchange program in the state of Oregon.
The exchange program varies from the Study Abroadprogram because the exchange program sends students to a school, while the school sends their students to OSU.
The College of Business does a great job helping students interested in studying abroad navigate through the information. They do this by providing a very easy to understand website that focusses on locations, times, contact information, and other acedemic information that students would be interested in.
The locations of the places that students have the opportunity to study at include Australia, Austria, China,Denmark, Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and Thailand. All of these experiences offer unique chances to become fully emersed in another culture.
In addition, the website provides information for parents and coordinators. This information also addresses issues that students visiting Oregon State as exchange students might have concerns about.
The relationship between Oregon State and the university that we send our students to only continues to grow stronger as we send more and more students each year on these programs.
The College of Business does a really good job clearing students for classes prior to the students departure so that the student can be fully confident they will be getting academic credit for their experience overseas.
International Events
International events on campus are often hosted by the International Students of Oregon State
There moto is "See the World Through Different Lenses". These events allow students to experience various cultures through events put on my the different student associations.
Some of the cultures represented by these associations are Taiwan, India, Japan, and China.
This saturday May 21,2006 will be Africa night. It will be a wonderful opportunity to see the beauty of a culture that you may not know much about. There will be dancing, singing, and native cultural practices that truly capture the uniqueness of various countries within Africa.
Tickets can be purchased at student involvement but you better get them soon because they go fast!
International Student Organizations
Oregon State University has many ways for students to get involved on campus. A great way to meet people and learn about another culture is to join a student organization or club.
Our school has students from Africa, India, Japan, and Indonesia. All of these groups are represented by a student association.
If you are interested in joining one of these clubs, click on the link at the bottom of the International Students of Oregon State University site.
English Language Institute
From personal experience I can say that the ELI program here at Oregon State is one of the greatest programs available to students that want to learn english.
Through their wonderful teachers and staff, the ELI program fully emerses its students into the American culture. As a student attending the English Language Institute, they are matched with a native English speaker to learn and fully understand their conversational skills.
In addition to this, the ELI program offers weekend trips to the coast, day trips to Portland, and regularly scheduled tours of Corvallis. They truly make their students feel welcome and at home.
