International Business

From OSU Wiki

The International Business course, BA 347, covers many topics surrounding the economic/ trade polices and strategies used by nations and companies worldwide. DIfferent trade restrictions, taxes, and tariffs are discussed. Also, economic integration adn the possibilty of a single currency union is a topic of interest. The class is taught by Steve Lawton, a popular professor with students. His laid back attitude and enthusiasm for teaching help create a great classroom atmosphere. He has lived all over the world and therefore has many stories that are relatable to the class material. The class meets two days a week for two hours each session; it is four credits. The format of the course has no midterms or final, but instead consists of a 25 multiple-choice question quiz each class. The quiz is over one chapter in the book. Therefore, the class has a fairly intense reading requirement, as each chapter averages 20-30 pages. Professor Lawton is very good about reporting the quiz scores online in a timely manor. He also allows for two scores out of the total quizzes to be dropped. In class, before the quiz is given at the end of the session, Professor Lawton gives a powerpoint lecture summarizing each chapter as well giving many examples of international business lessons he has personally learned. He is an advior to many corporate companies, for example John Deer.
