Harris was a great inventor, holding 35 patents during his lifetime. His most famous invention was a coating to keep razor blades from rusting. This invention landed him a position as a VP and research director at Gillette from 1956 to 1966. He also directed his own lab, and his studies led to the development of synthetic polymers like nylon, polyester, and plastics.
