Trysting Tree Golf Course

As you drive by Trysting Tree Golf Course, you may be thinking to yourself that this golf course does not look like much of a challenge. Well if you have not yet had the chance to play Trysting Tree, your initial thoughts are wrong, the course is quite a challenge. Although it may look easy from a car window, just wait until you finish playing a round.

Trysting Tree Golf Course opened to the public in June of 1988. Ted Robinson, the course architect, designed the course to be much like that of a links style course you may find in Europe. Trysting Tree is home to the Oregon State men's and women's golf teams. The course also hosts numerous tournaments throughout the year.

Because Trysting Tree is home to the OSU mens and womens golf teams, one could imgaine that it is actually quite difficult. It is a wide-open links course that allows for arrant tee shots every now and then. But Trysting Tree's true test comes when you reach the putting greens. The architect, Ted Robinson, definitely designed the course with the mindset of testing one's short game! The front nine of Trysting Tree has three double tiered greens that are even intimidating to the best of golfers. Other than the fact that Trysting Tree has quite a few double tiered greens, all the other greens seem to have a hard putting surface as well as a moderatly fast pace.

Trysting Tree also has a great group of PGA Tour teaching pros. There are three of them for you to choose from. One of the great things that these pro's take a huge part in is the success of junior golf. Trysting Tree has a great junior program throughout the fall and summer. If you would like more information about the Trysting Tree Golf Course you can visit their website at http://www.trystingtree.com/. Hope the links treat you well the next time you play! And to help you with your golfing venture, here is a walk-through of the course that may help you with your game. Trysting Tree Walk-through.

Corvallis Country Club

What a great golf course! This small yet tight golf course was built in 1917. It gives you a great test. You not only need to be thinking about your shot selection at this course but also your shot control. Corvallis Country Club is a true golf challenge. If you have the chance to play this course, just be aware that it is not that long of a course (only 6171 yards from the black tees). But know that it requires that you be at the top of your game. Marysville Golf Course

Marysville, what can you say about this course? It's a course that is extremely wide open, with the occasional trees scattered here and there. This course can be fairly difficult if you lack accuracy. The rough is not deep and there are no real obstacles between you and pretty much all of the holes; but what makes this course truly challenging is the extremely small and heavy sloping greens. Reading the greens can be a chore, so if you are up for a putting challenge or you just don't want to dish out the money to golf at a superior course, play a round at Marysville.

In september of 2006 Marysville opened its new driving range. There are 10 mats (the good thick mats, not the crappy ones like Trysting uses in the winter), 6 of which are covered by a large awning. It is the only covered driving range available to the general public in Corvallis, so you can hit balls even in the "Corvallis sunshine" (i.e. rain).

Historical Note: This year Marysville's 40 year old course record was broken by OSU business student Ryan Nolan. He shot a 63 on May 15th, breaking course owner Doug Hoselton's old record of 66. Nolan also holds the 9 hole record (30) and has been club champion two years in a row.

Mallard Creek Golf Course

Mallard Creek Golf Course is in Lebanon, about 20 miles east of Corvallis. Mallard Creek is one of the premier courses in Oregon. It is also one of the toughest public courses in Oregon. The great thing about Mallard Creek is that it drains tremendously well and is great for both Summer and Winter golfing. Mallard Creek also provides an RV park just in case you wanted to drive your RV out there. RV's and older people go hand-in-hand so it's no surprise that you will run into a lot of laid back old folks out there. If you're lucky you might get one of them to buy you a beer at the course's bar/grill. If you're out there you have to try it. It's got some really good food. Check out their website at http://www.mallardcreekgc.com/. Also don't forget to check out http://www.oregongolf.com/ for some good tee time specials. You can get a round of golf in at Mallard Creek in for as little as $30 sometimes. So hit 'em long and straight.
