Flag Football
From OSU Wiki
Flag Football is a slightly tamed version of regular football where players remove a flag off a belt of the ball-carrier, rather then tackling him or her. OSU Intramural Sports offers a variety of leagues that allows for many students to get involved in this popular team sport. Flag Football is played outdoors on the rec fields across from Dixon Recreation Center. A standard size NCAA football is used. There are no safety gear required, but wearing a mouth guard, cleats, and other sports safety equipment is not a bad idea. Since it's played in the fall, the weather can vary from hot and humid to cold and wet. The weather is a hidden element that adds to the fun of Flag Football. The fields are still 100 yards long with 10 yard endzones, about 160 feet wide, and the uprights are 18.5 feet across. Please see related links for How to get a team started.

Positions
In flag football there are 7 members on each team. For the offense there is ideally one quarterback, three receivers, and three blockers. For defense there are three cornerbacks, three rushers, and one safety to roam the field.
===Offense===
The quarterback's intention is to throw the ball to one of the three receivers. Three receivers attempt to break away from the cornerbacks and safety so the quarterback can deliver the ball. The blockers' object is to slow down the rushers enough to allow time for the quarterback and receivers to do their job. The tricky part for the blocker is that they are not allowed to use their hands. They must use their feet to keep themselves between the rushers and the cornerback while holding their hands behind their back.
===Defense===
The defensive rushers are not allowed to use their hands either. They must use their feet to get around the blockers (however they are allowed to remove the quarterback's flag with their hands). The cornerbacks each pick a receiver to guard and play man-to-man coverage. The safety is a backup designed to cover a receiver that has beat his defender. The cornerbacks and safety's main objective is to delay the quarterback long enough for the rushers to remove his flag.
Rules
Flag football is intended to be a no contact sport, however there is some contact, especially between the blockers and rushers. A result of the no contact idea is that a fumble (a ball dropped that has hit the ground) is whistled automatically dead on the spot it hit, and the team that fumbled it retains possession. Otherwise all rules pretty much remain unchanged from normal, contact football which you can see at http://www.football.com/rulesabc/index.shtml.
