Experiences with Duerksen & Associates
Duerksen & Associates rent out some great properties that aren't too expensive and are relatively close to campus. The houses are nice, but most are pretty old and show it. In the houses I've looked at of theirs and from the one that I currently live in, the outside paint is peeling and the paint job on the walls and other surfaces inside the houses wasn't done very professionaly as there's paint drops and paint on other areas where it shouldn't be. Some of the wood on the window ledges is rotted out and other various spots around the house the wood trim wasn't in the best condition. The house I'm currently in doesn't have any insulation and it has a metal roof, so in the winter all the hot air tends to go up to the second floor and the first floor freezes, while in the summer the upstairs is practically an oven while downstairs is nice and cool. The outside doors and windows aren't sealed up real well, making your heat bills rise as you have to turn up the heat to keep the house at a good temperature. Despite a lot of little things around the house that could be easily fixed, it's a good little house to live in. It's not too far away from campus and the neighborhood is usually pretty quiet.
While the properties which Duerksen rent are very nice their management is rude and will take advantage of their college residents. I rented from Duerksen for two years in two different houses. Each time they attempted to take all of the damage deposit and renovate their homes by repairing things which were not broken and charging us for the repairs. Both times letters were exchanged and the second time OSU legal services became involved.
