Marion Carl, from Hubbard, OR, became one of the country's greatest World War II fighter aces, earning two Navy Crosses, five Distinguished Flying Corsses, gour Legion of Merit Medals and 14 Air Medals. He set the wolrd speed record at 651 mph in 1947 and set the world altitude record in 1953 at 83,235 ft. He was the first living marine to be inducted into the Naval Aviation Test Pilot's Hall of Fame.
