Making his living in the oil business, Donald Bower was the first Presdident and CEO for Standard Oil of California, Chevron USA in 1978. He served as the vice-chairman of the board of directors for the Standard Oil Company in 1979, and then vice-chairman of the board in the Chevron Corporation in 1984.
