Larry Becker – GEO 105 & GEO 106
Larry Becker is one of the more passionate teachers that I have had. He is very experienced and he brings that to the class. He has traveled to many places and his pictures and experiences help to describe his teachings. His class is not too difficult, but it does have a fair amount of work though. His assignments, however, do not take up very much time. His classes were enjoyable and he made learning about the world interesting. He is a very helpful teacher outside of the classroom; he works hard to get to know students and is willing to take the time to help.
Class Rankings (10 being preferable)
Easiness 8, Teacher Help 8, Time Consumption 6, Overall 8
I took both of Mr. Becker's Geo classes my freshman year and it was worth it. He knows a lot of stuff and has a way of teaching that can hold your interest for the time needed. If his classes were longer I am not sure he could do it but for 50 minutes he has what it takes. If you are looking for a class to fill bac core I recommend Geo 105 and/or 106 from Larry Becker.
I took Geo 105 winter term 2008. The class had a really good split of points between tests, homework and map quizzes. The class lecture was interesting some days, but other days strayed slightly off topic. He had a very good use of powerpoint slides to show figures, data, and pictures, but he did not use it as a crutch for speaking. There was a decent amount of class participation for such a large class. The tests were very fair to study guides provided before the test. A very good option for BacCore because it is interesting, yet not tedious. Easiness => 8 Teacher Help => N/A Time Consumption => 6 (Mostly studying for map quizzes and filling out study guides) Overall => 9
