Course Feedback
This class is part of the Business Core Curriculum, but I'd still recommend it. I learned quite a bit about Access, Powerpoint, and making cool presentations. Many of the skills taught are ones that are good to know in the business world, so I'm glad I learned them. I had Dave Sullivan for this class, and I believe he is the only one who normally teaches it.
I recommend not procrastinating and putting off assignments until the last minute in this class. I did it plenty of times, but it made things more stressful. Especially with the Access assignments, you can get stuck on certain things. If you start early enough on the assignments, you can get help with them before the due date if you need it.
I am currently enrolled in this class and there is a lot of work to get done. I definitely recommend taking BA 131 the quarter before BA 271 so that some of the ideas are still fresh in your mind. Other than the work load the class is useful and will help you better understand information technology.
Course Feedback
I am currently enrolled in the Fall 2006 course for this class. Dave Sullivan is very helpful and makes a genuine effort to get to know each and every student in his class. Procrastination on the assignemnts can cause a lot of problems. An assignment make look short, but in reality it be very time consuming. A few assignments may take up to three hours to complete. Overall this is a very good course to take whether you are a business major or not. Skills you learn in this class as far as technology can help you in everyday life in what ever your career path may be.
More Feedback
This class is very technical if you have had no experience. The prereq. is BA 131 and I definately recommend taking this class first. The material moves along fast and troubleshooting takes time and patience. Dave Sullivan teaches the course and generally is available for questions and help. The class has a 1 hour help session on lab days, which is vital to your success. Procrastination with completion of assignments will ultimately hurt your grade. Practice, practice, practice.
I took this class without taking BA 131. The class was easy and you don't need prior knowledge to anything. Just do the exercises assigned then you'll be fine. I have to say that I took this class from that woman instructor, Donna or something, and she's one of the worst teachers I have had. She didn't know enough to teach at all, was slow, and always chit chatted with students instead of helping the ones needed. I had my hand up for literally a half an hour for questions and she still didn't get to me. She was just chatting with other students. Bad experience, but I think she left the college, which is good.
I think you should definately take BA 131 the term before you take BA 271. It will help you so much. I never go to class and just do the assignments and I am doing just fine. I think it is a really good class and it will be very helpful for my future in the business world.
