House History
The Antioch House was established in 2002 by three men. The three men wanted to establish a different kind of Christian house where men could be discipled and live together in pursuit of a intimate relationship with God. The Antioch House was originally located on on 14th and Jackson which is currently the Diakonos House. In 2003 Antioch House had 12 residence. The following year Antioch moved to the old Delta Tau Delta house on 23rd and Tyler where they had 53 residence. In 2006 Antioch moved to 27th and Taylor which was once the Beta house. Antioch currently has 58 residence.
House Vision
Our purpose is to worship God by raising up men for Christ through:
- Dependence on the word of God
- Developing a strong prayer life
- Unity in the faith through humility
- Reaching the community for Christ
House Leadership
The leadership of the house is divided into two parts. The house is divided into the spiritual and practical side. The Antioch House pastor oversees the entire functionality of the house but directly disciples the Small Group Leaders in how to guide the house spiritually. The Antioch House president disciples the Officers in the house which oversee the practical functions of the house.
Small Group Leaders
Small Group Leaders are appointed as discipleship leaders of the house. Each guy at Antioch is required to be in a small group where they will be discipled. Small groups are made up of 7 to 8 guys. The purpose of having small groups is to help men grow spiritually, become leaders, and establish accountability.
House Officers
This is made up of many different positions. They are elected by the house and are put in place to run the house. The Officers of the house are House President, Vice President, Treasure, Secretary Work Job Manager, Assistant Work Job Manager, Food Manager, Judge, Social Chair, IM Sports Chair, and Historian.
House Pastor
Many Fraternities have what is called a house mom whom is an older person to be at the house. Antioch has taken a different approach to this older person being a part of the house. We believe it is an essential part of the Christian life to be discipled by an older more mature person. Because of this we have employed a full time older male to over see the spiritual growth of the house. He is the overseer of the entire house but works together with the House President in the runnings of the practical functions of the house. His main roll is to lead a spiritual aspect to Monday night meetings, disciple and guide small group leaders, meet one on one with guys who need discipling, be there 24 hours a day to pray with men, and to be an example to the men of Antioch.
Monday Night Meetings
Each week the house has a mandatory house meeting. The dinner portion of the meeting has a dress code of: button up shirt, slacks, dress shoes, and belt. The meeting serves two purposes: to update everyone on house issues and have a time of worship along with a sharing from the word. These meetings typically go from 7pm until 9pm. We feel as though it is essential if we want to grow as a house that we learn from the word of God as a house. Each week the house pastor leads the house in worship and a lesson.
Meals
Breakfast foods such as, cereal, yogurt, bagels, granola bars, etc. are provided for residence each day. Lunch is served each day by our cook at 11 am and goes until 12:30. Dinner is served Monday through Thursday at 6 pm. All accept for Monday are open to guests.
Rent
Rent for Antioch is $475 per month. Most guys that live at Antioch pay rent by term. The rent is staggered so that Fall term costs $1500 Winter Term $1450, Spring Term $1375. Move-in day is usually one week prior to the start of Oregon State classes. During this first week is foundations week. We typically take a house camping trip where we all get to know with one another. This week is very important because it is the only time where we have no distractions from school. This will create a foundation of growth which the Lord will build off of for the entire year.
