Alpha Gamma Delta

Alpha Gamma Delta was founded on May 30, 1904, at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York. There were eleven original founders: Marguerite Shepard, Estelle Shepard Beswick, Georgia Alberta Dickover, Jennie Titus Smith Morris, Ethel Evelyn Brown Distinv, Grace Mosher Harter, Edith MacConnel Hickok, Mary Louise Snider, Georgia Otis Chipman, Emily Helen Butterfield, and Flora Knight Mayer. The official flowers are red and buff roses, and the colors are red, buff, and green. Alpha Gamma Delta’s symbol is the Armorial bearings which were approved at the first Alpha Gamma Delta Convention in 1907. Founder Emily Butterfield, who was recognized as an authority on heraldry, created the final design. The sororities gem is the pearl and the motto is “Inspire the Women. Impact the World.” The mascot is a squirrel symbolizes the spirit that never dies the spirit of alertness and progress. Our Philanthropy is the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation which was created in 1962 and supports Diabetes. There are 112 chapters throughout the nation.

    Chapter Facts

    Phi Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta was installed at Oregon State University on May 21, 1921. Phi Chapter is the only chapter of AGD in Oregon.

    Each member is given the opportunity to exercise their leadership abilities by serving as a collegiate officer of Phi chapter.
