On 10 November, 1775 at Tun Tavern, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Marine Corps was born. Two battalions of Marines were formed and soon after the Marines were engaging in ship-to-ship battles during the American Revolution. In 1805, at the battle of Derna, Tripoli Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon led Marine in battle and for his actions he was presented the Mameluke Sword. The Marines are fighting in the War of 1812, fighting the Seminole Indians in Florida and soon after Fighting in The Mexican American War. The red stripe on the Blue Dress trousers is worn to commemorate the casualties lost at the Battle of Chapultepec. In 1868, The Eagle, Globe and Anchor become the Marine Corps Emblem. Marines fight in the Civil war, Spanish American war, and Boxer Rebellion.
