Editing a Page

How Do I Edit?

At the top of every page there should be a Tab that reads edit. When you click this Tab you will be prompted to login. You use your ONID account to access the Wiki.

Text Formatting and Grammar

If you need some pointers on grammar, the OWL site is a good place to look. Remember to use good basic text formatting and grammar when editing pages, of course there will always be mistakes, and hopefully someone else will come along and make corrections. This is the beauty of the Wiki.

NameSpaces

MediaWiki has several types of Namespaces. These are the "page types" where the editing is done. The basic namespaces are:

Main or Article
Portal
User
Template

ALong with the basic namespaces, there are also some special ones, like talk and virtual.

Talk NameSpace

The talk namespace is a special space that is associated with each user name. When you click on the history tab, you will see user-names followed by the word talk. If you click on talk, you will be taken to that users talk page. If the page does not exist, you will be prompted to edit the page. This is the place where you can leave messages for users. Once a message is left, that user will see a box saying "You have new messages" on every page that they view until they visit their talk page. This is a good way to communicate with other class members.
