Dr. Champeau is the director for the Women’s Advancement and Gender Equity Office and also serves as a faculty member in the Department of Public Health in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University. She obtained her Ph.D. in Public Health from Oregon State University in 1995 with an emphasis in Gerontology and Health Behaviors. Dr. Champeau earned her Masters degree in School Health from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. She has been at Oregon State University for the past 12 years. During her time here, Dr. Champeau has received several university and department awards including the University Faculty Teaching Excellence Award (2005), the D. Curtis Faculty Service Award (2006), the Woman of Achievement Award (2006), and the College Excellence in Teaching Award (1999).

Dr. Champeau has been actively involved with diversity issues on campus since she has been at OSU. She has been a member of the Presidents Commission for the Status of Women, has participated in the DPD seminar and has co-presented to other university faculty on the DPD curriculum transformation process. Dr. Champeau has also published and presented at regional and National conferences on topics of diversity. Besides being passionate about gender equity she likes to bike, kayak, hike, cook, garden and play with her 2 cats and 2 dogs.

 

 

Dr. Mirabelle Fernandes-Paul

Dr. Fernandes-Paul is the Assistant to the director for the Women’s Advancement and Gender Equity Office, and serves on the boards of Crossroads International and OSU's Sexual Assault Response & Prevention Alliance (SARPA). She joined OSU in May 2008 after receiving her doctorate in Leadership, Policy and Administration from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota. For her doctoral research, Dr. Fernandes-Paul researched the challenges involved in cross cultural medicine, with a special focus on immigrant obstetrics. She also has a graduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. For her research, Dr. Fernandes-Paul studied the glycobiology of Apoptosis or programmed cell death, as seen in malignant tumors. She has served both as a researcher and faculty in various fields of the Life Sciences. Dr. Fernandes-Paul is passionate about socio-economic, ethnicity and race-related research, especially as they apply to gender equity.

In her spare time Dr. Fernandes-Paul likes to write, paint, hike, garden and cook. But her favorite thing to do is to explore the Pacific coast with her husband and two young sons.
