The following scholarships are available for current DVM students. Applications are available in January through the Office of the Dean. Awards are announced in early June and funds are available the following academic year.
Academic Excellence: Monetary award, given to four students in each class in recognition of their academic ranking.
American Animal Hospital Association Student Achievement Award: Monetary award, plaque and membership in AAHA, given in recognition of outstanding clinical proficiency in small animal medicine and surgery to an AAHA student member.
American Association of Feline Practitioners Award: Certificate and membership in AAFP, to recognize proficiency in feline medicine and surgery.
American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists Award: Subscription to the journal, Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, given to a fourth-year student exemplifying clinical proficiency in anesthesia.
American College of Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound Award: Certificate and subscription to Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound, in recognition of outstanding enthusiasm and understanding of veterinary radiology.
American College of Veterinary Surgeons Awards – Large Animal: Monetary award, certificate, and subscription to Veterinary Surgery, to recognize proficiency in large animal surgery.
American College of Veterinary Surgeons Awards – Small Animal: Monetary award, certificate, and subscription to Veterinary Surgery, to recognize proficiency in small animal surgery.
American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners Student Award: Monetary award, certificate and a one year membership, to recognize a student demonstrating extraordinary accomplishments in the field of laboratory animal medicine.
Austin, Ken and Celia, Camelid Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a student with a special interest in camelids.
Auxiliary to the American Veterinary Medical Association Outstanding Veterinary Student Award: Monetary award, certificate, and name on plaque, for a fourth-year student who has advanced the prestige of the College.
Auxiliary to the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association Award: Monetary award, given in recognition of congeniality, service, and dedication to the profession.
Bailey, Don and Betty, Scholarship: Monetary award, given to recognize interest and aptitude in small ruminant medicine.
Bailey, Dr. Robert B., Memorial Scholarship: Monetary award, given to recognize a third-year student with an interest in small animal surgery and intending to enter a mixed practice.
Bayer Animal Health Award: Monetary award, given to a student demonstrating excellence in parasitology.
Brown, Shane, Memorial Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a third-year student in memory of Shane Brown, a student from the Class of 2003 who died in a car accident during his junior year at Pullman, Washington. The award recognizes a student with an interest in large animal medicine.
Burgess, Sharon and Clifford, Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a student from Oregon in good academic standing.
Carolina Cabaret Memorial Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a third- or fourth-year OSU veterinary student with an interest in equine medicine and surgery, who demonstrates compassion for animals and their owners.
Chintimini Kennel Club Scholarship: Monetary award, given by the Chintimini Kennel Club to students who are residents of Oregon and are interested in canine medicine and surgery.
Class of 1997 Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a student who has participated in activities which promote the College and the profession of veterinary medicine.
College of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship: Monetary award, given to students in good academic standing
Columbia River Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club Student Assistance Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a student with a special interest in promoting purebred dog activities and plans to pursue small animal veterinary practice.
Community Outreach Awards: Monetary award, given to two students in each class in recognition of their efforts to promote the Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the veterinary profession. The recipients of this award are chosen by their classmates.
Dog Fanciers Association of Oregon Scholarships: Monetary award, given to students interested in purebred dogs and companion animal medicine.
Emerald Dog Obedience Club of Eugene Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a student with interest and ability in training dogs for obedience, tracking or agility.
Finch, Frank and Amy, Memorial Award: Monetary award, given to recognize seniors with proficiency in equine medicine and/or surgery.
Fort Dodge Animal Health Scholarship: Monetary award, for a third-year student with an interest in public health.
Glenmor Forest Llamas Scholarship: Monetary award, given to students in good academic standing with an interest in llamas.
Hart, Allan H./IDEXX Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a fourth-year student who displays exceptional proficiency in clinical pathology and its practical application to clinical cases.
Hill’s Pet Nutritional Case Study Award: Monetary award, given to a third-year student that presented the top case study in nutrition as determined by a faculty committee.
Hill’s Pet Products “Buddy” Award: Monetary award and a plaque, given to a fourth-year student demonstrating excellence in the field of small animal clinical nutrition.
Hultgren, Dr. Bruce, Memorial Award: Monetary award, given to first-year students with an interest in and aptitude for veterinary pathology. Established by the Class of 1990 in memory of Dr. Hultgren, who taught at Oregon State University.
Jones, Dallen H. Memorial Scholarship: Monetary award, given in memory of Dr. Dallen H. Jones of Roseburg to a student in recognition of character, attitude, maturity and professional conduct.
Koger, Dr. Lavon M., Memorial Scholarship: Monetary award, given in memory of Dr. Lavon Koger of Washington State University, in recognition of character, attitude, maturity and professional conduct.
Lamont, Creston & Dorothea, Memorial Veterinary Medicine Scholarships: Monetary award, given to students with an interest in poultry, sponsored by Mr. George Lamont in memory of his parents.
Leadership Awards: Monetary award, given to two students in each class in recognition of their active role in the leadership and organization of class activities and the promotion of class unity. The recipients of these awards are chosen by their classmates.
LEI Medical Veterinary Scholarship: Monetary award, for third-year students demonstrating proficiency in small animal anesthesia.
Linn County Kennel Club Scholarship: Monetary award, given to students who are Oregon residents with an interest in small animal medicine and purebred dogs.
Longview-Kelso Kennel Club: Monetary award, given to veterinary medicine students pursuing a career involving canine reproduction and research and/or in small animal medicine practicing in the upper Willamette Valley or southwest Washington.
Magruder, Dick, Memorial Scholarship: Monetary award, given in memory of the Honorable Dick Magruder, who was a member of the House of Representatives and was instrumental in helping to establish the College.
Marion-Polk Veterinary Association: Monetary award, given to a student in good academic standing from Marion or Polk County.
McKenzie Cascade Dog Fanciers Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a student who is an Oregon resident with an interest in small animal medicine and purebred dogs.
Mentorship Awards: Monetary award, given to two students in each class in recognition of their positive attitude and willingness to help and support their classmates. The recipients of these awards are chosen by their classmates.
Merck Veterinary Manual Awards: Merck Veterinary Manuals, to recognize scholastic achievement in fourth-year students.
Mountain Dog Rescue Scholarship: Monetary award to recognize a student that has demonstrated community responsibility in the fields of shelter work, animal rescue, or volunteer work. It is established by alum Dr. Patti Prato, Class of 1991, in memory of her first rescue dog.
Nestlé Purina Award for Excellence in Companion Animal Nutrition Scholarship: Monetary award, to recognize a student who has demonstrated excellence or interest in companion animal nutrition or to a student pursing small animal medicine.
Nestlé Purina Senior Paper Award: Monetary award, to recognize the top two senior papers.
North American Veterinary Conference Award: Trip to the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando, Florida in January, given to a student selected to serve as NAVC representative.
Northwest Equine Practitioners Association Scholarship: Monetary award and plaque, for graduating fourth-year students with an interest and aptitude for pursuing a career in equine medicine and surgery.
Novartis-Ethicon Animal Health Scholarship: Monetary award, given to students with an interest in parasitology, pain management, or aptitude in dermatology, endocrinology, or proficiency and/or interest in internal medicine and surgery.
Oregon Animal Health Foundation: Monetary award, to recognize a student who promotes the importance of the human-animal bond and the well-being of animals.
Oregon Veterinary Medical Association Memorial Scholarship: Monetary award and name on plaque, given in memory of Drs. Clark, Eivers, Behrends & Powers, to two first-year students. The recipients of these awards are chosen by the first-year teaching faculty based on character, attitude, moral and professional conduct, and dedication to the welfare of classmates.
Petrequin, Daniel E. and Dorothy J., Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a veterinary medicine student who graduated from an Oregon high school. The Petrequins were residents of Benton County, leaders in 4-H and equestrian programs and donated land to Corvallis which is now Chip Ross Park.
Pfizer Small Animal Clinical Proficiency Award: Monetary award and a plaque, in recognition of a high level of academic and clinical proficiency.
Pfizer Veterinary Scholarship Award: Monetary award and plaque, given to a third-year student in recognition of academic achievement.
Pfizer Veterinary Specialty Team Award: Gift certificate for Elsevier publications and a plaque to recognize three students with clinical and academic proficiency in small animal dermatology, dentistry, internal medicine, emergency/critical care or analgesia/anesthesia.
Portland Veterinary Medical Association Scholarship: Monetary award, given to students from the Portland metro area with an interest in small animal medicine/practice and who are in good academic standing.
Rogue Valley Equine Hospital Scholarship: Monetary award established by Dr. Thomas Timmons, Class of 1991, to recognize a student with an interest in pursuing a career in equine medicine and private practice. Dr. Timmons is an equine practitioner from Central Point, Oregon.
Rogue Valley Veterinary Medical Association Award: Monetary award, given to students in good academic standing.
Salsbury Top Student Award: Monetary award presented to third-year students in recognition of superior scholarship, leadership and financial need.
SCAVMA Leadership: Monetary award, given to a first-, second- or third-year student who has shown outstanding leadership within the College of Veterinary Medicine. The SCAVMA Executive Board makes the recommendation to the College Awards Committee.
SCAVMA President Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a fourth-year student who has shown outstanding leadership as a member of the SCAVMA Executive Board. The SCAVMA Executive Board makes the recommendation to the College Awards Committee.
Schering-Plough Animal Health Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a second- or third-year student with a desire to pursue a career in clinical practice.
Scott, Dr. Edward, Memorial Award for Equine Practice: Monetary award, to recognize a student with interest in equine practice.
Sears, Dr. Hayden and Mrs. Dawn, Compassion for Animals Award: Monetary award, to recognize a fourth-year student who exhibits caring and compassionate behavior for animals and their owners.
Simmons Educational Foundation Scholarship: Monetary award and plaque, to recognize a third-year student who shows an interest in practice management. To qualify for this award, students must have taken Practice Management and submit a resume and cover letter that addresses the role of sound business practices, and write an essay addressing a business management problem.
Snyder, Dr. Joe and Mrs. Jane, Awards: Monetary award, to recognize two fourth-year students who demonstrate congeniality and helpfulness.
Thayer, Beverly, Veterinary Medicine Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a student with an interest in horses and/or dairy cows.
Tualatin Kennel Club: Monetary award given in memory of Debbi Kaluza and Margaret Braun to students with an interest in pursuing a career in small animal medicine.
Umpqua Valley Mounted Posse Scholarship: Monetary award, given to a student who is an Oregon resident in good academic standing with an interest in practicing large animal medicine and has experience with horses. Sponsorship is from the Umpqua Valley Mounted Posse, which provides community service by helping those interested in horseback riding and associated activities. They are committed to promoting, encouraging and supporting horsemanship, equestrian health, nutrition and well-being of animals.
Veterinary Learning Award — Pharmacology: VPR software, and licensing rights and access to free software upgrades, for a second year student in good academic standing who has demonstrated classroom leadership. Award provided by Veterinary Software Associates and IDEXX Computer Systems.
Wedman, E.E., Outstanding Senior Award: Monetary award and plaque,
in honor of Dr. E.E. Wedman, founding Dean of the College, given to the
outstanding fourth-year students demonstrating scholarship, leadership,
and dedication to veterinary medicine.
Western Veterinary Conference Award: Monetary award and conference attendance, for a student demonstrating strong leadership qualities.
Willamette Valley Llama Foundation Scholarship: Monetary award, given to students in good academic standing who are interested in a career related to the llama industry.
Zylewitz, Bernard & Stephanie, Scholarship: Monetary award, given to students in good academic standing.
