Each year, the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University accepts 40 Oregon residents and eight nonresidents, including students who are applying through the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) contract from Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Utah, or Wyoming. The first three years of the DVM curriculum consist of a series of required sequential courses with opportunities for electives in the area of a student’s interest. For the fourth and final year of the professional program, students complete coursework and clinical rotations through the Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. In addition, preceptorships at veterinary practices, zoos, research facilities, public health services, and other colleges or international programs add a broader experiential dimension to the professional curriculum.
After completing the four-year professional program, graduates receive their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Oregon State University. Graduates of the DVM program are prepared to enter post-graduate training programs, clinical practice, military service, regulatory medicine, public health, epidemiology, industry, research, teaching, and international programs. More than half the graduates from the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine remain in Oregon to practice veterinary medicine.
The OSU College of Veterinary Medicine is fully accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
