What is Pet Day and Open House?
This annual event is the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine’s open house for the surrounding community. The student run event showcases the College and the veterinary profession while celebrating the human-animal bond. Student-led tours give the community insight into what it is like to study to become a veterinarian. Young students may participate in hands-on activities to help them think about careers in veterinary medicine.
May I bring my dog to Pet Day?
Yes, on a leash please. (note that dogs may not be taken into the buildings.)
Can I register and run/walk in the fun run even if I don’t have a dog to run/walk with?
Yes, all are welcome. Dogs must be on a leash.
How much does Pet Day cost?
The event is free and open to the public. Free activities include: demonstrations, booth fair, teddy bear surgery, tours of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and petting zoo.
Some activities such as: fun run, bounce house, pet photos and pony rides have fees.
Where do the proceeds for Pet Day go?
Thanks to many sponsors (see list below) the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the first and second year classes (all three are OSU recognized student clubs) organize this annual event to showcase the college and the veterinary profession. After all bills are paid, funds raised at Pet Day and Open House go into the student club accounts to support student activities throughout the four years they are here. Activities include student travel to professional meetings, sponsorship of speakers and demonstrations related to the profession, scholarships, and activities associated with graduation week.
