So, you've been admitted to OSU (CONGRATS!), maybe even visited campus and begun your housing application...
The countdown to your first day of class at Oregon State has begun! Here's a guide to the final steps you need to take in order to qualify to participate in room selection (picking your room) this June.
First, the basics.
Before you select your room
- Complete your housing application before May 1. Here's a link to information about our online application, which you can access through MyUHDS. Be sure to check out the important dates! This is the first of four steps you MUST complete if you would like to participate in room selection. Missing any of the four steps can result in UHDS assigning a room to you based on your application preferences, rather than getting the choice of where and who to live with yourself.
- Pay your Advanced Tuition Deposit (ATD) to the university before May 1. Here’s a link to follow for information on how to pay your ATD online. The ATD confirms your intent to enroll and applies towards your fall tuition; it is not an additional fee. The $200 is refundable before May 1 and non-refundable afterwards.
- Register for START. Online registration for the Summer START orientation sessions opens on May 1. In order to register, you must have paid your ATD. You’ll need to sign-up for a Summer START before June 1, in order to participate in room selection.
- Sign your housing contract before June 1. This is the last hurdle that needs to be cleared in order to participate in room selection. Re-enter your application on MyUHDS, proceed to Step 3, read your contract thoroughly and click the boxes to sign and confirm your contract.
Selecting your room

Oregon State has 15 residence halls and about 4,000 first year residents. Some of our residence halls have living-learning communities or themes associated with all or part of the hall, while other buildings are open to all students. Residents in majors that are eligible for academic living-learning communities have a slight head start to pick rooms in those buildings. Here are the dates that are designated for living-learning community room selection.
All room selection processes open at 2 p.m. on the first day indicated:
June 2 – June 4, 2014:
University Honors College: West Hall
Austin Entrepreneurship Program: Weatherford Hall
June 4 – June 6, 2014:
Engineering: Buxton and Hawley Halls
Global Village: International Living-Learning Center
June 9 – June 10, 2014:
Arts and Social Justice: Wilson Hall
Health and Well-Being: McNary
Substance Free: McNary Hall
June 10 – June 11, 2014:
Civic Engagement: Bloss Hall
ROTC: Finley Hall
General room selection will be open June 11 – 16 for all other new students who have contracted with UHDS for 2014-2015. Students may select spaces in all eligible buildings based on availability during this time.
Students who have contracted for 2014-2015 who do not select a room on their own will be assigned by UHDS from June 17 to 20, based on the date they applied for housing.
Students who applied for housing after May 1, 2014 will be assigned on a rolling basis, based on the date they applied for housing. Room assignments will be announced mid-June to September.
Please note: If you are applying for an exemption from the First Year Experience live-on policy, please fill out the exemption request linked off the housing application in MyUHDS. You will still need to fill out a housing application.
