Austin Entrepreneurship Program

Weatherford Residential College is the home of The Austin Entrepreneurship Program, in conjunction and close collaboration with the College of Business and the College of Engineering. With 290 beds, Weatherford is home to students of many disciplines, all sharing an interest in innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. Weatherford Hall is a blend of living and learning environments which will encourage students to create their own enterprise. Renovated and re-opened in September 2004, Weatherford consists of student rooms, student incubator spaces, faculty and program offices, a faculty apartment, two self-contained suites for visiting entrepreneurs, investors and professors, a cyber cafe, an entrepreneurship library, a conference room and two classrooms. The residential entrepreneurial concept includes an extensive informal curriculum including seminars, guest speakers, facilitated interactions and programming.

In addition to the room and meal cost for Weatherford Hall, there is also a $250 per term AEP program fee to help cover part of the program costs. By applying to live in Weatherford you are adding value to your personal and professional development and investing in your future. If you are on need based financial aid you may be eligible for a waiver of the fee.

Health and Human Sciences Living in Community (LinC - LIVE)

Buxton and Hawley halls serve as a residential community for students studying or interested in majors within the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS). First-year residents create a living environment related to majors of interest in the college such as Nutrition and Exercise Science, Public Health, Human Development and Family Sciences or Design and Human Environment. Along with working with a Faculty-in-Residence from the college, there is an opportunity for instant study groups or advising sessions by HHS staff. Hall dinners, networking with upper-division HHS student leaders, seminars and other informal interactions include presentations by faculty on issues related to relationships, healthy living, nutrition and exercise.

Substance Free Living

We have three substance free communities at OSU, one on each side of campus. In our substance free wings, students are committed to supporting an environment free of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

Community Service Learning

Bloss has a community service learning, interdisciplinary theme where the hall staff and a live-in faculty member work with residents to create a compelling living/learning experience with the community. Community service learning is a concept that promotes responsible citizenry and which fully integrates experiential, hands-on learning activities with a student's academic and social experience.

Honors College Program: A Community of Scholars

McNary is proud to be home for University Honors College (UHC) students and those students who are interested and excited by the pursuit of knowledge. At McNary, Honors and non-honors students live and learn together, discuss and act on community issues, and have lots of fun. University Honors College faculty are involved with residents through academic and intellectually focused programming and in-hall office hours. Honors classes and academic success classes are taught in the McNary classroom facility on the ground floor. Study groups and extracurricular groups use the classroom when classes are not in session. Each residential floor has two large rooms that are dedicated study areas.

International Experience

The focus of West International Hall is centered on the international experience. West International Hall is dedicated to students interested in the world community. The International Experience is concentrated primarily on two floors, however the mission of the residence hall is to responsibly educate, encourage, and celebrate cultural diversity, personal growth, and respect through communication, involvement, and positive community interactions.

Science, Math & Engineering

Working with the College of Engineering, Wilson provides its community members with a host of exciting opportunities. As part of the engineering community, students have the opportunity to create connections between their in-class and out-of-class experiences. One of Wilson's greatest attributes is the Engineering Resource Center which is equipped with study tables, a resource library, and computers that students may access 24 hours a day. Student with engineering accounts may log on to any of the computers which will give them access to an array of engineering software without even leaving the hall. Wilson Hall also offers a program designed for women in engineering.

Transfer & Upper-class Experience

Halsell Hall is the home of our Upper-class Experience program geared towards providing upper-class students the tools and opportunities to prepare for the future after college. Through focusing on five distinct areas: career planning; leadership and involvement; academic enhancement; experiencing diversity; and enhancing community. The program will specifically incorporate the needs of the advancing student by providing: programming, leadership opportunities, community and policy development, and academic support. Students living in Halsell must be at least 20 years old OR a transfer student OR a returning student.

Gender Inclusive/Apartment-Style Living

For upper-class/transfer students who want an apartment style living option without having to live off campus, UHDS offers apartment-style assignments in Halsell Hall. What does this mean? In simple terms, it means that anyone can choose to live in a room or suite with anyone else. Students can choose to live with each other without restriction based on gender identification. This living environment can accommodate students who desire to live with friends and family, regardless of gender, and was supported by an ASOSU proposal asking for gender inclusive housing options.

Term by Term (One Term) Contract

Prefer to contract term by term? Poling Hall now offers term by term contracts. Students agree to complete the entire academic term of the UHDS Contract, with the option to renew the contract for subsequent terms. Note that there is an additional cost for the contract flexibility. The academic terms run from September 16, 2007 to December 7, 2007 (Fall), January 6, 2008 to March 21, 2008 (Winter), March 8, 2008 to June 13, 2008 (Spring).

Quiet Floors

The realities of community living dictate that individuals respect community needs for the moderation of noise regardless of the established quiet hours. Noise is any sound, human or otherwise, which is disturbing to a resident. In a effort to reduce the amount of noise in the residence halls and cooperatives, specified quiet hours are in effect.

Male/Female Only Wings

If you would like to live on an all female or male wing, we have some limited single gender wings available. Callahan, Finley, McNary, Sackett, and Wilson have single gender female wings, and Finley and Sackett have single gender male wings.

ROTC Wings

Finley Hall provides a unique living environment for students who participate in the ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) Program on the 6th floor of the building. Students who would like to live with other ROTC students, who keep the same strenuous ROTC schedule, are welcome to live on this floor.
