Self-Help Program
The UHDS Self-Help Program has been created to empower students to help improve their physical environment with the support and guidance of the Residential Maintenance and Facilities Staff.
UHDS Accent Wall Program
University Housing and Dining, through the Self Help program, allows students to have an accent wall painted in their assigned room. A color palette has been developed for each residence hall, with up to four color choices.
The Self Help program is designed to provide materials, tools and instruction to students. This allows students to take ownership over the painting or repair needed, and assist with the personalization of space. Each student participating in the Self Help program will be required to watch an instructional video on proper paint application prior to being allowed to paint the accent wall.
There are three options to have an accent wall painted:
- Full Self Help: Students will be provided paint, tools, and instruction on how to properly apply paint. Students will do all cutting in of edges and corners, painting of the wall, as well as all clean-up tasks. This option requires a good eye for detail and the ability to perform quality work. This option requires one week advance notice.
- Partial Self Help: Professional UHDS painters will cut in the edges and corners of the wall. Students will do the wall preparation, paint all areas other than where the UHDS painters cut in, and perform all clean-up tasks. This option requires two weeks advance notice.
- UHDS Paint: If a student does not feel comfortable doing any painting on their own, professional UHDS painters will paint the accent wall for the student. This option requires three weeks advance notice.
To request an accent wall, please contact your Resident Director. They will notify Residential Maintenance and Facilities staff of your request, and assist with providing paint and supplies.
