Style Sheets

The OSU central Web pages and the OSU Web Templates use style sheets to define the appearance of HTML text.

Why use style sheets? Tags such as 'bold' and 'font' can be combined to form a single style, which can be used again to apply the same formatting to other blocks of text within a site. This makes it much easier and faster to create Web pages with a consistent style. If you change the style definition, any text with that style attached to it will change automatically and uniformly.

Style sheets separate the content of a Web page from its appearance. This allows Web editors to update content without affecting the presentation, and allows Web designers to change the presentation without affecting the content.

The table below illustrates the defined text styles available for use in OSU Web sites. If you use the OSU Web Templates, these text styles are embedded within the template style sheet.
