Engineering student receives two scholarships

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Kyle Rector, a graduating senior at Oregon State University, has been awarded a National Science Foundation graduate research fellowship and a prestigious Anita Borg Google Memorial Scholarship to pursue graduate work.

The Google scholarship is one of only 20 made nationally to undergraduate students, and the NSF fellowship will provide more than $100,000 over three years in living support and tuition. Rector, from Clackamas, Ore., plans to obtain a doctoral degree in computer science from the University of Washington.

Rector, who earned a double major at OSU in computer science and electrical and computer engineering, has had several internships with private industry and in academia, and assisted in research on ways to make software more accessible for both males and females.
