OSU Alumni Association names new officers; launches advisory council

07/07/2010

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Penny Atkins, a 1979 business graduate from Caldwell, Idaho, has been named president of the Oregon State University Alumni Association board of directors.

Atkins, a business consultant, is a long-time, active supporter of the university through philanthropy and donated volunteer time. The association board named a full slate of officers to work with her; their one-year terms started July 1. The officers and a representative from the OSU Foundation board of trustees form the alumni association’s executive committee, which is headed by Atkins.

Other members of the executive committee are:

  • First Vice president: John Porter, ’83, Tualatin, Ore.
  • Second Vice president: Joth Ricci, ’91, Portland, Ore.
  • Treasurer: Pam Knowles, ’77, Portland, Ore.
  • Immediate past president: Bill Perry, ’89, Canby, Ore.
  • Representative from OSU Foundation Board of Trustees: Elise McClure, ’81, Portland, Ore.

The board of directors is comprised of 22 alumni. It oversees the operation of the alumni association, working closely with executive director Jeff Todd and the rest of the association’s professional staff.

This year, the board decided to expand opportunities for alumni leadership and support by creating its own alumni advisory council. Council members will be ambassadors for OSU and will assist the association in engaging alumni in their communities.  The council may eventually grow to have as many as 45 members.
