PORTLAND – Coming off one of Oregon State University’s most challenging yet most successful years ever, OSU President Ed Ray will deliver a “State of the University” address at the OSU Business Roundtable on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 11:30 a.m. at The Gerding Theatre , 128 N.W. 11th Ave.
Like many other higher education campuses around Oregon and the nation, OSU experienced major peaks and valleys in 2009. Its faculty set an institutional record in research funding, earning $252 million in contracts and grants. The OSU Foundation, meanwhile, moved significantly closer to its $625 million goal for the Campaign for OSU.
Those gains were offset, however, by major reductions in state funding that necessitated significant budget reductions, staff and faculty furloughs and planning to consolidate and eliminate programs and classes to meet the university’s bottom line.
Ray will address those dynamics and the exciting and equally challenging times that lie ahead for the university in his address, which will be followed by a luncheon and question-and-answer session.
Members of the media are encouraged to attend. Please call Todd Simmons at (541) 737-0790 or (541) 230-4013 to confirm your attendance or Cathy Marshall at (503) 553-3431.
The State of the University Address is being presented by the OSU Alumni Association and the OSU Portland Center, which is located in downtown Portland, 707 SW Washington St., Suite 500 of the Union California Bank Tower.
