CORVALLIS, Ore. – An expert in math education at Oregon State University has been honored for the “outstanding journal article” from the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.

Rebekah Elliott, an assistant professor of mathematics education, was recognized for her article in the Journal of Teacher Education, “Conceptualizing the Work of Leading Mathematical Tasks in Professional Development.” Elliott has been on the OSU faculty since 2005.

The study, based on research with leaders across the country, outlines new ways to cultivate “mathematically rich” environments so that teachers have opportunities to improve their mathematical knowledge for teaching.

“This work is timely and unique in advancing how leaders work on subject matter with teachers, the role of leaders in professional education and the educational needs these leaders have,” said Sherman Bloomer, dean of the College of Science.
