OSU’s Daugherty finalist for Oregon Book Award; two OSU Press books also recognized

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Tracy Daugherty, a Distinguished Professor of English at Oregon State University, is a finalist for a 2009 Oregon Book Award.

Daugherty was nominated for his book, “Hiding Man: A Biography of Donald Barthelme” (St. Martin’s Press) for the Frances Fuller Victor Award for General Nonfiction.

Two books published by the OSU Press, “Strand: An Odyssey of Pacific Ocean Debris,” by Bonnie Henderson of Eugene, and “Wild Beauty,” by John Laursen of Portland, also were nominated for the same category.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Monday, Oct. 26, in the Gerding Theater at the Armory in Portland. Tom Bissell will host the ceremony, which honors literary accomplishments by Oregon writers.

“Hiding Man” is Daugherty’s ninth book. He is the author of three collections of short stories and a book of personal essays. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation and won the Oregon Book Award three times.
