CORVALLIS - An exhibition titled "Art About Agriculture, The Archives: A 15-Year Celebration," will be on display Feb. 27 to March 28 at the Benton County Historical Museum, 1101 Main Street, Philomath.
The exhibit includes paintings, photographs and weavings from the Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences' annual Art About Agriculture competitions.
The public is invited to a reception at the museum from 4 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 27 that will kick off the exhibit.
OSU's annual Art About Agriculture competition began in 1983. The purpose of the program is to bring fine art to the rural areas of Oregon and to help those unfamiliar with agriculture develop an understanding and appreciation of agriculture.
For about six months each year, an exhibit featuring that year's winners travels to towns and cities in various parts of the state. The parts of the state change each year.
OSU's Art About Agriculture collection contains more than 160 pieces of artwork purchased from the annual competitions. The competition and collection are believed to be the only one in the United States based solely on agriculture, according to Mary Boyer, the program's coordinator.
Artists whose work will be on display at Philomath are:
Erik Scott Nelson
Jim Adams, Susan Lewis, Mary Murphy, Judith Sander, Nelson Sandgren, Carol J. Krakauer
Edwin Koch, Maurice Van
