CORVALLIS - For the past four years, a group of journalists and business leaders have worked with Oregon State University faculty and administrators to help OSU craft a new and relevant media communication program.
Many of those professionals have been named to an advisory board for the new program.
Members of the OSU New Media Communication Advisory Board include Chris Anderson, publisher and CEO of The Orange County Register in Santa Ana, Calif.; Mike Forrester, publisher of the Capitol Press in Salem; Steve Smith, editor of the Statesman-Journal in Salem; Susan Kelley, vice president and general manager of KTVL-TV in Medford; Peter Bhatia, editor of The Oregonian; Clara Padilla Andrews, publisher and editor of El Hispanic News; Marty Taucher, former vice president of Microsoft; Cathy Marshall, co-anchor with KATU-TV in Portland; Maynard Orme, president and CEO of Oregon Public Broadcasting; David Weinkauf, general manager of KVAL-TV in Eugene; and Rob Priewe, managing editor of the Gazette-Times in Corvallis.
The board will advise Joel Thierstein, newly hired director of the program, and Kay Schaffer, dean of the OSU College of Liberal Arts. A few positions have been left open on the advisory board, Schaffer said, in expectation that Thierstein will fill those positions when he arrives in August.
