Christmas trees offered by OSU forestry students

11/24/1999

CORVALLIS - Christmas trees fresh from the Oregon State University forestry student tree farm will on sale from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3 in OSU's Memorial Union Quad.

Sale hours will run from 3 p.m. to dark, said Will Lawrence, tree farmer manager for OSU's chapter of the Society of American Foresters, which is conducting the sale.

Trees are primarily Douglas fir, with some noble fir, Lawrence said. The trees are grown on the SAF tree farm in the Peavy Arboretum area of OSU's McDonald Research Forest. The trees are being cut by club members on Sunday, Nov. 28.

Proceeds benefit the OSU chapter of the society, which works to promote professionalism in the field of forestry, encourage interaction between professional foresters and students, provide opportunities to take part in active forest management projects, and help educate the public about forest resources. In addition to the tree farm, SAF activities include a mentorship program, hosting guest speakers, participation in community natural resource education, and travel to state and national SAF conventions.
