03/18/1999

CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will host a special program in Portland on April 6 to share information about attending college with Asian-Pacific American students and their families.

The program will begin at 6 p.m. at Parkrose High School, 12003 N.E. Shaver St.

"This is an opportunity for high school students and their families to explore the opportunities for college," said Sho Shigeoka, coordinator of OSU's Asian-Pacific American Education Office.

Persons attending the program will be able to get information on admissions, academic programs, financial aid and scholarships, support services, housing, student and cultural programs.

Speakers will include OSU President Paul Risser; Andy Hashimoto, associate provost for academic affairs; Janet Nishihara, academic coordinator for the Education Opportunities Program; and OSU alumni.

A student panel, comprised of Asian-Pacific American students at OSU, will talk about their experiences at the university and answer questions.

"We will try to illustrate all aspects of Oregon State University - the academic, social and cultural," Shigeoka said.
