Computer music lecture and concert set at OSU

CORVALLIS - Ryan Hare, instructor of composition and music theory at Oregon State University, will present a lecture-concert of music using computer-generated sound written by composers from the Pacific Northwest.

The free public concert will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, in Walker Recital Hall (Room 303, Benton Hall) on the OSU campus.

The concert will include "Solecism" by Hare, and other works using computer-generated sound by Richard Karpen, noted composer and professor of music composition at the University of Washington.

Works of several other composers associated with the UW School of Music Computer Center will also be featured. Composers Karpen, Linda Antas, and Bret Battey will be at the concert to discuss their works as well as artistic developments in the realm of computer music.
