03/30/1998

BEAVERTON - Succession - when a business makes the transition from one generation to the next - may be the most challenging issue that family business owners face, according to Patricia Frishkoff, director of Oregon State University's Austin Family Business Program.

To promote business success, the Austin Family Business Program, with sponsorship by U.S. Bank, will hold a succession workshop in Beaverton for family business owners.

The four-hour workshop starts at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at Platt Electric Supply, 10605 S.W. Allen Blvd. A working lunch and tour of Platt Electric Supply begins at noon.

Registration is $65 with a $15 discount for business customers of U.S. Bank. The fee includes lunch, and advance registration is required. For information and registration details, contact OSU's Austin Family Business Program at 800-859-7609 or 541-737-3326.

Topics will include strategies for succession survival and effective trusts. A panel of family business owners will also discuss what they learned during their own successions.

The Austin Family Business Program, which began in 1985, provides hands-on learning to help business owners manage day-to-day operations and plan for future generations.
