CORVALLIS - Charles Dailey, professor emeritus of exercise and sports science at Oregon State University, has been named a starter for the track events at the 12th World Veterans' Athletic Championships next month in Durban, South Africa.
Dailey, 77, was a starter at OSU track meets from 1948 until the program was eliminated in the 1980s. He has been a starter for University of Oregon track meets since 1962 and recently was named to the UO track hall of fame.
The World Veterans' Athletic Championships, for athletes age 30 and over, are held every two years. They will run this year from July 17-27.
Dailey has been a starter at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and at three separate U.S. Olympic Trials. He also was guest clinician for the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.
