OSU college announces ag honors scholarships

CORVALLIS - Agricultural Honors Scholarships totaling more than $69,000 have been awarded to students entering or continuing in the Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences.

"Beginning Venture" scholarships went to students entering the college's programs at Corvallis or on the Eastern Oregon University campus in LaGrande.

"Continuing Venture" awards were made to previous Agricultural Honors Scholarship recipients.

Students receiving Beginning Venture awards are:

ASHLAND

Macrina Savko, daughter of Madeline Savko and Michael Savko. The 1997 graduate of Ashland High School is studying general agriculture. She received the $1,000 scholarship given by the Naumes Family of Medford.

ASTORIA

Janae Cruikshank, daughter of Dennis and Sandy Burley, is studying agricultural business management. The 1996 graduate of Knappa High School received a $2,000 award sponsored by Fisher Implement Company and Oregon Women for Agriculture.

AURORA

Michael Peoples, son of Dave and Helen Peoples. The 1997 graduate of Canby High School is enrolled in the bioresource research program. His $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by the Burlingham Family in memory of Frank Burlingham.

CANBY

Domini Bennett, daughter of Robert and Teresa Bennett. She is studying agricultural business management. The 1997 graduate of North Clackamas High School received the $1,000 award sponsored by Farm Credit Services of Oregon.

CENTRAL POINT

Chadd Griffin, son of Jim and Anna Griffin. The 1997 graduate of Crater High School is studying agricultural and resource economics. His $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by the Grange Co-op of Central Point.

CLACKAMAS

Jonathan Velez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Velez. The 1994 graduate of Damascus Christian School entered OSU from Mt. Hood Community College to study animal sciences. His $1,000 award is sponsored by the Savery fund in the Agricultural Research Foundation.

COOS BAY

Paul Starkey, son of Scott and Kim Starkey. The 1997 graduate of Marshfield High School is studying fisheries science. His $1,000 award is sponsored by the Savery fund of the Agricultural Research Foundation.

CORVALLIS

Hilary Derry, daughter of Robert and Patricia Derry. The 1997 graduate of Corvallis High School is studying agricultural and resource economics. Her $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by Cenex Supply and Marketing of Madras and Tangent.
Leah Gross, daughter of Pauline Gross and Leland Gross, is enrolled in the bioresource program. She is a 1996 graduate of Corvallis High School. Her $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by Harvest States Foundation of St. Paul, Minn. .
Avery McCombs, son of Loretta Rivard, is enrolled in the bioresource research program. The 1997 graduate of Corvallis High School received the $1,000 Jess Hanson scholarship given by Elinor McKee and Richard Hanson of Corvallis.
Jennifer Radke, daughter of Edward and Janet Radke. The 1997 graduate of Corvallis High School is majoring in animal sciences. She received the $1,000 award sponsored by the Eugene Farmers Co-op.

COVE

Colby Johnson, son of DeWayne and Mary Jane Johnson. He is studying agricultural business management in the OSU agriculture program on the Eastern Oregon University campus. The 1997 graduate of Cove High School received a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Harvest States Foundation of St. Paul, Minn.

ELGIN

Chandra Christenson, daughter of Chris Christenson and Tari Homan, is studying agricultural business management in the OSU program at Eastern Oregon University. The 1997 graduate of Elgin High School received the $1,000 award sponsored by the Harvest States Foundation of St. Paul, Minn.

ENTERPRISE

April Edtl, daughter of Kim and Julie Lamb, is a pre-veterinary major in animal sciences. The 1997 graduate of Enterprise High School received $1,000 in scholarships sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Fisher of Oakland and the Burlingham Family in memory of Frank Burlingham.

Diane McFetridge, daughter of Darrell and Marlie McFetridge, is studying food science and technology. The 1997 graduate of Enterprise High School received a $1,000 Clifford Smith Memorial Scholarship given by Helen Smith of Corvallis.

FLORENCE

Jon Jensen, son of Ann Jensen, is studying wildlife science. The 1997 graduate of Siuslaw High School received the $1,000 scholarship given by the Harvest States Foundation of St. Paul., Minn.

GASTON

Thomas Genco, son of Thomas and Francine Genco, is enrolled in wildlife science. He is a 1997 graduate of Gaston High School. His $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by the Savery fund of the Agricultural Research Foundation.

GRESHAM

Jennifer Baird, daughter of Marlene Baird. The 1997 David Douglas High School graduate is studying animal sciences. Her $1,000 scholarship is given by the Harvest States Foundation of St. Paul, Minn.

IONE

Kelly Morgan, son of Virgil and Debbie Morgan. The 1997 graduate of Ione High School is studying in the OSU agriculture program at Eastern Oregon University. Her $1,000 award is sponsored by Pendleton Grain Growers.

IRRIGON

Ryan Evans, son of Kenn and Mary Evans, is studying agricultural business management in OSU's program at Eastern Oregon. The 1992 Riverside High School graduate is entering the OSU program from Blue Mountain Community College. His $1,000 award is sponsored by Pendleton Grain Growers.

JOSEPH

Seth Botts, son of Rodney and Linda Botts, is studying animal sciences. A 1997 graduate of Joseph High School, he received a $1,000 O.M. Plummer Memorial Scholarship given by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Henning of Everett, Wash.

MILWAUKIE

Heather Herrera, daughter of Jean and John Herrera, is studying agricultural business management in the OSU agriculture program at Eastern Oregon University. The 1994 graduate of Rex Putnam High School entered the OSU program from Blue Mountain Community College. She received the $1,000 Charles E. and Clara Marie Eckelman scholarship.
Sarah Miller, daughter of Thomas and Janet Miller. The 1997 graduate of Rex Putnam High School is studying fisheries science. She received the $1,000 Jernstedt Family scholarship given by the family from Carlton in memory of Leonard R. and Maurice A. Jernstedt.

MITCHELL

Jessica Carroll, daughter of Michael and Susan Carroll. The 1997 graduate of Mitchell High School is studying in animal sciences. She received the $1,000 Lawrence E. and Marguerite Kaseberg memorial scholarship.

MOLALLA

Roxanne Johnson, daughter of Reed and Shirley Johnson. The 1997 graduate of Molalla High School is studying general agriculture. She received the $1,000 Charles E. and Clara Marie Eckelman memorial scholarship.

MT. ANGEL

Tricia Drago, daughter of Vince and Patricia Drago. The 1997 graduate of J.F. Kennedy High School is studying agricultural business management in the OSU agriculture program at Eastern Oregon University. Her $1,000 scholarship is given by Wilco Farmers, Inc., of Mt. Angel.

MYRTLE CREEK

Myrtle Creek - Matthew Lawhead, son of Douglas and Althea Lawhead. The 1997 graduate of South Umpqua High School is studying wildlife science. His $1,000 scholarship is given by Douglas County Farmers Cooperative.

MYRTLE POINT

Jacob Singleton, son of Pat and Alvin Jones. The 1997 graduate of Myrtle Point High School is studying in the OSU agriculture program at Eastern Oregon University. His $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by the Savery fund of the Agricultural Research Foundation.

PHILOMATH

Staci Hering, daughter of Thomas and Sandra Hering. The 1997 graduate of Philomath High School is studying in animal sciences. She received the $1,000 Summers Agricultural Honors scholarship given by Anita and the late Herb Summers of Corvallis.

PORTLAND

Meaghan Gilhooly, daughter of Joseph and Jennifer Gilhooly. The 1997 Woodrow Wilson High School graduate is following a pre-veterinary study in animal sciences. She received the $1,000 Summers Agricultural Honors scholarship given by Anita and the late Herb Summers of Corvallis.
Bonnie Ng, daughter of Po Keang and Shiu Shim Ng. The 1997 graduate of Cleveland High School is studying general agriculture. She received the $1,000 Karla Chambers Leadership scholarship given by the E.R. Jackman Foundation.
PRAIRIE CITY

Jeremy Field, son of Richard and Melody Field. The 1997 graduate of Prairie City High School is studying general agriculture. His $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by Pendleton Flour Mills.

SALEM

Alisha Wilson, daughter of Robert and Salia Wilson. The 1997 graduate of Douglas McKay High School is a pre-veterinary science major in animal sciences. She received a $1,000 award given by the Burlingham family in memory of Frank Burlingham.

SHERWOOD

Eric Johnson, son of Michael and Ellen Johnson, is enrolled in the bioresource research program. He is a 1997 graduate of Sherwood High School. He received the $1,000 award sponsored by Wilco Farmers, Inc., of Mt. Angel.
Abigail Roos, daughter of Michael and Carol Roos. The 1997 Sherwood High School graduate is studying pre-veterinary science in animal sciences. Her $1,000 scholarship is given by the Harvest States Foundation of St. Paul, Minn.

SILVERTON

Miranda Fischer, daughter of Randall and Avon Fischer. The 1997 graduate of Silverton Union High School is studying animal sciences. She received a $1,000 Frank Burlingham Memorial scholarship given by the Burlingham family.
Jeremy May, son of Andy and Carol May. The Gervais High School graduate is studying crop and soil science in the OSU agriculture program at Eastern Oregon University. He received a $1,000 Loren J. Smith Memorial scholarship given by Mrs. Loren J. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Loren J. Smith, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dean Jones of Corvallis in memory of Loren J. Smith.
Kyle Ross, son of Larry and Marilynn Ross. The 1997 graduate of Silverton Union High School is studying crop and soil science. His $1,000 scholarship is given by the Harvest States Foundation of St. Paul, Minn.

Sara Davis, daughter of Terry and Cheyleen Davis. The 1997 Baker High School graduate is enrolled in the bioresource research program. Her $1,000 scholarship is given by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Fisher of Oakland.

TILLAMOOK

Kurt Mizee, son of Bart and Terry Mizee. The 1995 graduate of Tillamook High School entered OSU from Linn-Benton Community College. He received a $1,000 Charles E. and Clara Marie Eckleman Memorial scholarship and the $1,000 award sponsored by Tillamook County Creamery Association.

TYGH VALLEY

Aimee Lindell, daughter of Hal Lindell. The 1997 graduate of South Wasco County High School is studying general agriculture. Her $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by A/B Technologies International, Inc.

Rhonda Kirkham, daughter of Robert and Sharon Kirkham. The 1997 graduate of Willamina High School is a pre-veterinary science major in animal sciences. She received the $1,000 scholarship given by Ernst Hardware of St. Paul and Cascade Tractor of McMinnville.

Benjamin Piper, son of Charles and Rebecca Piper. The 1997 Woodburn High School graduate is studying crop and soil science. He received a $1,000 Loren J. Smith Memorial scholarship given by Mrs. Loren J. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Loren J. Smith, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dean Jones of Corvallis in memory of Loren J. Smith.

Lilinoe Melrose, daughter of Kenneth and Maile Melrose. The 1997 graduate of Hawaii Preparatory Academy is studying animal sciences. She received a $1,000 scholarship given by A/B Technologies International, Inc.

Daneice Witt, daughter of Jerome and Linda Witt. The 1997 graduate of Yelm High School is studying animal sciences. She received the $1,000 scholarship given by the Grain Elevator and Processing Society and Mrs. Helen Smith of Corvallis in memory of Clifford L. Smith.

Alina Prokopchuk, daughter of Nykodym and Nataliya Prokopchuk. She is studying food science and technology. She received the $1,000 Ursula Bolt Knaus scholarship.

Danielle Posch, daughter of Joseph and Louise Posch, is studying crop and soil science. The Jefferson High School graduate received the $1,500 Robert Dean Jones scholarship sponsored by Mrs. Loren J. Scott Moffenbeier, son of Robert and Janice Moffenbeier, is majoring in horticulture after transferring from Clackamas Community College. The 1994 graduate of Rex Putnam High School received the $1,500 award sponsored by the Harvest States Foundation of St. Paul, Minn.

Megan Price, daughter of Joel and Vikki Price, is majoring in general agriculture. She is a 1995 graduate of Adrian High School. She received a $1,500 Fox Continuing Venture scholarship given by Mr. and Mrs. H. Clayton Fox of Imbler.

OREGON CITY

Christopher Lorion, son of Roger and Carol Lorion, is majoring in fisheries science. The 1993 graduate of Oregon City High School transferred to OSU from the University of Washington. His $1,500 scholarship is given by Elinor McKee and Richard M. Hanson of Corvallis in memory of Jess Hanson.

Heidi Shelburg-Stewart, daughter of Mike and Melanie Stewart, is majoring in general agriculture. She is a 1996 graduate of Rainier High School. She received the $1,500 Charles E. and Clara Marie Eckelman Memorial scholarship.

Kimberly Durrer, daughter of Bob and Elaine Durrer, is majoring in agricultural business management. The Tillamook High School graduate received a $1,500 Charles E. and Clara Marie Eckleman Memorial scholarship.
